20 Best Lunch Spots in Edinburgh, Scotland
"My favourite lunch spot in Edinburgh is Oink, I was in the city for a weekend last year and went there twice it was so delicious. They specialise in pulled pork sandwiches, and have managed to make the best damn pulled damn pulled pork sarmie that I’ve ever had. Their menu is simple: choose your size (Piglet, Oink or Grunter), choose your bread (white or brown), choose a stuffing (sage and onion or homemade haggis), and choose a sauce (mayo, BBQ, chilli cheese, or chilli jam)."

The 11 best cheap eats in Edinburgh
"Oink – about halfway down Victoria Street, with another branch near the foot of the Royal Mile – is a tiny shop serving hog roasts, and you’ll probably smell it before you see it. It sells fluffy morning rolls stuffed with moreish roast pork, crackling and a choice of sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce, chilli relish or haggis. The Piglet (£2.95) suits a smaller stomach, the Oink is somewhere in the middle (£3.95) and the Grunter (£4.95) is best for bigger appetites."

Nine of the very best vegan places to eat in Edinburgh
"This popular tex-mex restaurant does serve meat (sorry) but they’re also famed for their vegan pulled jackfruit burrito, made with slow-roasted, barbequed jackfruit: a sort of tropical fruit that takes on the consistency of pulled pork when cooked. The burrito also comes with spicy salsa, either black beans or pinto beans, and vegan cheese. If you don’t fancy jackfruit you can opt for a true taste of Scotland instead and try a veggie haggis burrito!"

This establishment has the greatest Mexican food with an American twist, so you know it won’t disappoint. This BFF date is not only one to remember, but with such a large variety of flavours, it will become a regular spot."

10 of the best budget eats in Edinburgh
"The Tex-Mex fast food trend was slow to arrive in Edinburgh but there are now two excellent rivals – Illegal Jack's in the south of the city and Los Cardos in the north. Illegal Jack's is a slick branded operation with the product to match. While the menu carries fajitas, nachos and tacos, it's really all about the burritos."

15 Quirky & Unique Places To Eat & Drink In Edinburgh
"Another food place just off the Royal Mile, hidden down one of its closes, Wings offers exactly what you’d expect: chicken wings. While this might not be quirky in itself, it’s full of fun pop culture references, including a Jurassic Park table, Star Trek quotes, and a wall full of characters to find. It’s also fantastic for some cheap eats in the city centre, as each set of 3 wings will cost you £4.50 – I recommend ordering two lots, and definitely not three as we found out the hard way, unless you’re really hungry!"

Edinburgh vs London: Who Has the Best Street Food
"I mean, what’s not to love about a ginormous, fully-loaded jacket spud?. It’s hot, it fills a big hole and you can choose the toppings to suit your mood. The classics (cheese & beans or tuna mayo) may always prevail – but we dare you to try, and not love, the epitome of fillers: Haggis, cheese & chutney (of the mango variety)."

Top things to do in Scotland
"The grand seat of local government was built in the 1880s at the high point of Glasgow's wealth. The interior is even more extravagant than the exterior, and the chambers have sometimes been used as a movie location to represent the Kremlin or the Vatican. You can have a look at the opulent ground floor during opening hours. To see more, free guided tours are held at 10.30am and 2.30pm Monday to Friday; it's worth popping in earlier that day to prebook."

It’s possible to visit the Scottish Parliament, either as part of a guided tour, or you can pop in yourself and see government at work. It’s free to visit, both on a guided tour or self-guided, although you need a ticket (free) if you want to watch a debate in the chamber."

"I’d also suggest you make the time to head out to an icon of the Edinburgh surrounds – the Firth of Forth bridges, and in particular, the UNSECO World Heritage Listed Firth of Forth Rail Bridge. This is a mighty red cantilevered bridge construction spanning the Firth of Forth, opened in 1890, and still operational today. At it’s time of construction it was the longest single cantilever bridge in the world, and despite now being the second longest, is still might impressive."
