The Best Lunch Spots in Edinburgh
"As the only Japanese-owned and managed restaurant in Edinburgh, award-winning Harajuku Kitchen has proved reassuringly popular with Japanese visitors, the Scottish Consulate General of Japan – and the Scotland rugby team. Situated just off The Meadows and handily close to both the King’s and Lyceum theatres, the menu doesn’t initially inspire, but there’s clearly a pro in the kitchen. Go for the great value lunch menu, where for £12.95 a head you can dine like an emperor, feasting on genmai green tea, miso soup, steamed rice and two dishes, which include tempura, tonkatsu or kara-age."

Best Sushi Restaurants In Edinburgh - Hidden Edinburgh
"A post shared by Edinburgh Food Porn & Reviews (@plateexpectations) on Jul 7, 2017 at 3:45am PDT. Part of a chain of three restaurants dotted across Edinburgh, Maki and Ramen offers soothing bowls of broth with braised bean curd (or try the ‘Hell Ramen’ if you dare!) and then plenty of fresh sushi to have on the side or as an additional course. This is probably the best sushi restaurant on this list for vegetarians, too, thanks to its thoughtful and delectable vegetarian set dishes."

"Source: Photo by user in Bourke Street, used under CC BY-SA 2.0. This shop is a little off the beaten path, but if you’re looking to take someone on a rainy day date (or you’re just too lazy to microwave yourself some soup – which I feel), head over to Maki Ramen and watch cars and people walk by while you guzzle down a bowl of hot ramen. Don’t forget to read the post-it note memories and doodles left on the wall by other customers, and maybe add your own to the mix!"

A Taste of the Far East: Best Asian Cuisine in Edinburgh
"Kanpai Sushi is a hip Japanese restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh, a short walk from the Usher Hall. Winner of the Best Newcomer Award at the Scottish Restaurant Awards 2012, this sophisticated eatery has been making friends fast and looks likely to be serving beautifully prepared sushi and sake to discerning clientele for some time. The menu is, unsurprisingly, dominated by delectable seafood."

"Bentoya is a cozy little restaurant near the Grassmarket, and it’s a great spot for fresh, quality sushi at a reasonable price. I’d recommend the spicy salt & pepper squid and the volcano roll, which is beautifully presented, and topped with dried shredded chili. The sashimi is also excellent, and has a creamy melt-in-your-mouth texture."

"The lunch menu at Bell’s Diner has barely changed in 40 years, but why change a winning formula?. This cute little diner on the corner of St Stephen Street has been serving up gourmet burgers long before the likes of Byron got in on the act. Its steaks are also excellent and come with a choice of five sauces (go for the garlic butter), while the large hot fudge sundae pancakes are legendary in these parts."

"Edinburgh's 18th-century City Chambers were built over the sealed-off remains of Mary King's Close, and the lower levels of this medieval Old Town alley have survived almost unchanged amid the foundations for 250 years. Now open to the public, this spooky, subterranean labyrinth gives a fascinating insight into the everyday life of 17th-century Edinburgh. Costumed characters lead tours through a 16th-century town house and the plague-stricken home of a 17th-century gravedigger. Advance booking recommended."

Wonderful waterfront restaurants and cafes in the heart of Edinburgh
"Teuchter's Landing is a great little pub close to the docks at Leith. The pub is housed in a quaint and attractive stone building that was once the ferry terminal for boats arriving from Aberdeen (Teuchter, pronounced choochter, is a lowland Scots name for a highlander) and it has retained much of the original stonework. The interior is clad in warm wood with a huge fire to warm patrons on winter nights and the extra seating outside includes a wonderful floating pontoon."

"This bar is located in the Shore area of Leith and its outdoor seating area is always popular in summer. However, the warm and homely inside area of this bar is an even bigger draw in winter. A formal restaurant (A Room In Leith) lays adjacent, but it's the mug menu of Teuchters Landing which is an absolute steal."

"The Pantry’s Finn & Bear has settled in nicely in Leith, we’ve already lost count of the number of brunches we’ve consumed (possibly connected to the number of Bloody Marys that seem to accompany our early morning feasts). In The Pantry’s Stockbridge restaurant, you can tuck into Sunshine in Stockbridge – it’s only fitting that there should be a Sunshine on Leith too. Brunch at this Stockbridge restaurant is a rite of passage for any Edinburgh visitor. Chris’s eggs benedict, for instance, captured the imagination of The Sunday Times, who wrote that it was ‘reason alone to come to Edinburgh’."
